Salesian Community at Metiyagane

 A three-member Salesian Community at Don Bosco Residential Technical School - Metiyagane officially took charge of the centre on October 21, 2010. The community consists of Bro.Gabriel Garniga, Fr.Coonghe Joseph Xavier and Bro.Lasantha Perera. A simple and small celebration was held on this occasion. The celebration began with Holy Mass followed by dinner.

Don Bosco Hotel & Bakery School

A three-member interview board consisting of Fr. Nihal Liyanage, Fr. Dixon Fernando and the principal conducted  interviews for the next batch of students seeking admission for the Bakery and Pastry course at the Don Bosco Hotel & Bakery School in Hungama on October 19, 2010.  On this day certificates were awarded to the previous batch of students who had successfully completed their course.

  

Don Bosco Centre in Nachchikuda

A new computer centre in ‘Don Bosco Tech’ at Nachchikuda was inaugurated on October 9, 2010.  This is a dream come true for hundreds of children and youth in the North of Sri Lanka who have been living under constant fear due to the war.  Some of the eminent personalities, apart from the salesians, present on this auspicious occasion were His Grace Thomas Savundranayagam Bishop of Jaffna, Fr. Nihal Liyanage – Provincial Superior, Fr. Dixon Fernando - Vice Provincial Superior and top ranking army officials. The Salesians of Don Bosco plans to start many more vocational and job oriented training for the youth of the region.  Regular remedial classes for school going children of the region will also be conducted by qualified teachers at the centre.

New Provincial Superior

Rev. Fr. Nihal Liyanage was installed as the new Provincial Superior of the Salesian Vice Province of Sri Lanka.  His predecessor Rev. Fr. Anthony H. Pinto laid down his office on September 8, 2010.
